Maybe Lewis Hamilton wasn’t as daft as we all thought jumping ship from McLaren and heading off to Mercedes F1. When we all thought the Mercedes F1 team didn’t have a chance of doing anything special in 2013, Hamilton and Rosberg have proved the 2013 car is a strong contender, and in final qualifying for tomorrow’s Spanish Grand Prix they’ve locked out the front row. Hamilton’s team mate Rosberg beat him to pole position – his second pole in a row – with Red Bull’s Vettel having to settle for third place alongside Kimi Raikkonen’s Lotus.

This is the new Mercedes C-class estate that heads freshly into battle with the Audi A4 Avant and BMW 3-series Touring. It’s bigger, benefits from a lighter and more rigid body and uses less fuel than before. How big is it? Compared to the previous C-class, this fourth-generation estate has an 80mm longer wheelbase for 45mm more rear legroom.

Mercedes has revealed refreshed AMG versions of its S-class limo at the Shanghai Motor Show. The S63 and S65 don’t have any more muscle than before, but are slightly greener thanks to tweaks to their engine management systems. Under the bonnet you’ll find the same 518bhp 6.2-litre V8 or 604bhp 6.5-litre V12 as before.
